Lovejoy's Practice

Lovejoy's Practice was my first solo-show, taking place at artist run gallery Tidens Krav in downtown Oslo (NO). It featured a performance based installation in which I gave reiki healing sessions to participants who signed up, and a selection of video performances in the hallway of the venue, recorded at one of the oldest cruising area of the world, north of Oslo.

From the 2012 press release: "As Venus moves across the face of the Sun, one of the rarest planetary alignments for us to witness, several other celestial events take place world-wide, also in Tidens Krav, where Venus Jasper will set up a special healing-massage-spa-shrine, specialized in creating tender moments for those selected, asked or willing. The artist will be present in the showroom-spa-cube all weekend, and will be assisted by friend and artist Yelena Myshko."

The spa was specialized in creating individually tailored 45-minute long sessions. Traditional Tera Mai Reiki was applied and mixed with the application of contemporary objects such as hairbrushes, nail polish and soaps to the body.

• Lovejoy's Practice was part of Tele-Application, an international open call that asked artists to apply for a show by leaving a voicemail message on the phone of the Tidens Krav gallery. Other artists taking place in the Open Call where: Birta Gudjonsdottir (IS), Chris Succo (UK), James Hoff & Børre Sæthre (US/NO), Mom & Jerry (DK/DK), Rachid Laachir (BE), Vemund Thoe (NO).
• At the time, I was studying at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, investigating Queer Shamanism via the work of AA Bronson, and Alejandro Jodorowsky.
