Educating

Do you teach?

I frequently teach at visual art programs, both bachelor and masters, with courses by my own design in the fields of Futurisms, Art & Ecology, Queer Ecology, Visual & Performing Arts, Decolonial Practices, and Intentional Design. I also create workshops, speak at symposia, give artist talks, conduct studio visits, and offer other educational contributions. Open to collaborate! Check below for past experiences.

Art School Courses

Radical Thinking, Tutor Scenography AHK (BA)

In 2024 — 2025, I teach the module Performative Costume Design as part of the course Radical Thinking, designed by Carly Everaert. In my module, Scenography and Mime students collaborate, embodying socially engaged and creative research in a critical and radical way. Besides this I have an advisory role for the Scenography departement development.

Future Fields, Tutor BEAR ArtEZ (BFA)

In 2023, I taught Future Fields at BEAR, ArtEZ, Arnhem (NL). A 6-week course that considered how speculative futures can contribute to new relations with the land, and "new" ways of living, prompted by ongoing climate and societal change.  In which I collaborated with Four Siblings project. From macro to micro, from big dreams to significant details; we asked who and what to consider while "designing" the future. Students were asked to consider art-making, filmmaking, writing, farming, land-skills, story-telling and rituals as tools to conjure more just futures.

Future Field, Tutor Ecology Futures MA (MFA)

In 2021 —  2022, I designed and taught Future Fields (FKA Community of All Beings) at the Ecology Futures MA, MIVC|St. Joost, Den Bosch (NL) with guest speakers such as Chihiro Geuzenbroek. The courses focussed on developing 'progressive' more-than-human futurities. Students investigated the Western concept of ‘nature’ and how it creates false dichotomies. They looked at a queering of the world, investigating colonial and industrial sentiments hidden in futurisms, and explored ontologies that surpass the West.

Is soil sacred? MU Hybrid Art House

Here, I created the weekend symposium Is Soil Sacred? as part of my solo-show Earthshrine at MU, Eindhoven. Victoria McKenzie, Georgia Kareola and I held a discursive conversation, and offered a music-ritual in which audiences entangled themselves with soil. The exhibition also featured a selected library with 40+ titles focused on soil entanglements curated by Angelique Spaniks and myself.
