Amsterdam Museum Kamp

Children portray their future city through art!

End 2025, I guided a 5-day children's workshop in the context of the Amsterdam Museum Camp, a holiday camp part of the ELJA Children's Museum Lab. In our outdoor workshop week, 20 kids and I designed and built a wooden spaceship carrying plants and dreams for the future.

This work, and the work of several other workshops is now presented at the Amsterdam City Hall, and will be opened by Mayor Femke Halsema.

This exhibition, themed 'Future', features artworks by made in creative weeks in the May and autumn (school) holidays, where children aged 9 to 12 worked together with artists on artworks about their city.

From a Plant-UFO and an animated film to a self-written rap and the imaginative ‘cleaning monster’: the works show how young Amsterdammers view their city – and how they envision the future.

The works were developed under the guidance of artists Jan Hoek, Venus Jasper, Tessel Brühl, Rossel Chaslie, Lisa Konno, Annalies van Eerde, Afra Eisma, and Gerdien van Halteren, and demonstrate how young Amsterdammers imagine and question their surroundings.
